The Sky is Still Miraculous

I took Gem out this morning when it was just getting light and saw the most amazing moon hanging in the western sky between buildings. I've never seen a moon like that, enormous. How can I describe the size of it? It was like a new planet, suspended between the buildings, illuminated. I mean, it was massive. I stopped two strangers to point it out. A super I see all the time and have never spoken to; “Look at the moon!” I said to him and he said. “I've never seen a moon like that!” “Me neither,” I said, “and we've seen a lot of moons.” I had to share it.

And to the east, the sky was red-orange at its base. Above, three chem trails were perfectly horizontal. It was like a Rothko painting. I'm telling you. The sight filled my body with-- what is it? Happiness, wonder.

Happy New Year! We are alive!!
